Careers Information For Parents

At Winterton Community Academy, Careers Education is designed to support every student in becoming safe, happy and successful, by equipping them with the knowledge, confidence, and ambition to choose the most appropriate pathway for their future.

Careers Education is delivered through PSHE sessions, Drop Down Activities, and across the curriculum, ensuring all students benefit from a broad and inclusive experience that reflects our commitment to diversity and opportunity for all.  At Key Stage 4, this provision is strengthened through tailored guidance and support, helping students make a smooth and confident transition into further education, training or apprenticeships.  This is delivered as part of a strong community approach, working in partnership with external, professionally trained advisors.

Students are encouraged to seek guidance from trusted members of staff, including their form tutor, Head of Year, and the Careers Lead, ensuring they feel supported, secure, and informed as they explore their options.

We recognise that families play a vital role in this journey.  Gaining a clear understanding of the opportunities available is essential in making the right decision.  Attending college open evenings together is highly recommended, as it helps both students and parents feel confident and informed about the next steps.

Above all, we encourage students and families to be ambitious, explore all possible pathways, and make decisions that reflect the individual strengths, interests, and aspirations of each young person.  As a school, we are committed to supporting every student within our community to achieve a future where they can thrive.

Transition Points in Education

Year 9 Option  Choices

Choosing subjects for Key Stage 4 is an important step in your child’s journey and provides a valuable opportunity to begin positive, supportive conversations about their future pathways.  At Winterton Community Academy, we encourage students to make informed and ambitious choices that reflect their interests, strengths, and aspirations, helping them to remain happy, safe and successful as they progress.

If your child would like support when selecting their options, they are encouraged to speak with their form tutor or Mrs Dalowsky, ensuring they feel confident and supported as part of our school community.  We are committed to providing inclusive guidance that recognises each student’s individual pathway and celebrates diversity in future choices.

Parents and carers are also welcome to seek further advice.  If you would like to understand how Key Stage 4 subject choices may influence post-16 opportunities, please contact Mrs Dalowsky at dalowsky.a@wintertonca.com or Mr Featherstone at featherstone.r@wintertonca.com.  We are here to work in partnership with you, supporting every student to achieve their full potential.
